This little mother and baby proboscis monkey necklace was originally hand sculpted in wax before being cast into sterling silver and finished on an adjustable 16-18" trace chain. Select 'gift' at checkout for 100% recycled ribbon wrapping to be added to your order. 20% of profits will be donated to help protect the proboscis monkey's habitat via World Land Trust, who fundraised to save the Keruak Corridor in Borneo to link the fragmented habitat of endangered species. They work to reforest and conserve the area as well as local projects to educate and raise awareness for rainforest conservation. ----------------------------------------------------------- The Proboscis monkey is a distinctive species, with the males' noses in particular growing long and hanging over their mouths. They are endemic to Borneo, found in coastal mangrove forests and lowland forest within close proximity to rivers. They are good swimmers having partially webbed feet. The largest populations in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo, are found in the Lower Kinabatangan floodplains. Proboscis monkeys have declined at a rate of approximately 50% in the last 40 years, according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
