With all the decorating around the house that needs to be done for Christmas, don’t forget about your Shaker Peg racks! They need to be dressed as well in winter attire that will add sheer whimsy especially if you are using child’s clothing! This next offering…… Vintage Child’s Long Johns will offer plenty of mileage so to speak because when the holidays are over they can still be left out for the winter months that lie ahead.
These long john’s are in good condition and a red mitten accented with greens and a candy cane held in place by a wee clothespin is also included. The mitten can easily be removed after the holidays if you so choose. The creamy white color is neutral enough to fit into any color scheme and will blend in nicely with your existing textile collections. These long johns have been hand washed and line dried.
The union suite sports Mother of Pearl buttons that are in great shape however one button is missing (second one down from the top) as shown in images 8 & 4. The maker’s label reads: “The Tennessee, Zephyr Fleece” which is considered a warm and soft fabric. Reinforced double stitching makes this textile strong and sturdy. The snow white thread used catches the light and is very complementary to the fleece fabric.
There are a couple light stains present on the front near the upper thigh on the left leg and also on the upper left hand shoulder area as well as on the back of the right arm. Another small stain can be seen on the back calf area on the right leg. See images, 9, 5, 6 & 19. There are no odors, rips or holes present. The back of this union suit, near the top of the neck has a gentle swoop effect that resembles an elongated half circle. It is very well made shows attention to detail. The traditional back flap secured by a pearl button is present which adds to the charm!
The hand knit mitten is adorable and can be positioned on the long johns by the clothespin to suit your liking. Harry fashioned a custom wire hanger for this piece and it hangs very well terminating just before the shoulder area creating a gentle drape effect.
This darling pair of long johns would dress any Shaker Peg rack in style lending coziness, warmth and whimsy all through the winter! Enjoy!
Overall height is 38” Tall (includes the hanger measurement) by 12” across (shoulder to shoulder).
